Nortel pledges to offer more re-org details

Tools

With partners such as JDS Uniphase and Andrew, among others, saying they need more details from Nortel Networks about its bankruptcy protection plans, the Canadian network equipment vendor reportedly plans to offer more details soon. Nortel's bankruptcy protection period was extended to May 1.

Perhaps the complaints from companies that supply Nortel with technology components are typical to bankruptcy protection situations, but not all that much has been clear yet about Nortel's future plans, other than a plan to cut jobs and costs, and skip the Mobile WiMAX market. Nortel also said it would pull back on an earlier plan to sell its Metro Ethernet unit, a move which would have delivered some cash, though Nortel may have had to settle for less money that it had hoped to gain.
