Northeast Georgia libraries get 100 Mbps Internet via NGN cooperative

NGN, a member-owned service provider cooperative that runs a 1,600-mile network in North Georgia, is providing 100 Mbps symmetrical Internet connections to seven libraries within the Northeast Georgia Regional Library system.

Using the 100 Mbps service as a foundation, NGN Connect is also providing the libraries with a host of complementary services including hosted Wi-Fi service and a VoIP telephone system at each location. The network build is part of NGN's role in the Education Exchange, Georgia's only regional 10 Gbps private cloud for exclusive use by school systems that it launched last September.

The network is now live in Northeast Georgia Regional Library locations in Clarkesville, Cleveland, Cornelia, Rabun, Stephens and the system's central library office. NGN said it is currently migrating the Helen, Ga., library campus, which will upgrade their Internet connection from a 6 Mbps DSL connection to the 100 Mbps symmetrical connection, becoming the first site in the regional library system to get the largest speed increase. By providing the symmetrical connection, library members at all seven locations will be able to using streaming video services and take part in virtual learning opportunities. Release
