NTS extends Gigabit network to downtown Lubbock, Texas

NTS Communications has completed the buildout of a new Gigabit fiber network in Lubbock, Texas, enabling it to provide service to local business customers in serviceable areas, including the city's downtown business district.

Local businesses will have access to the NTS Gigabit fiber network, which provides speeds ranging from 75 Mbps up to 1 Gbps.

Cyrus Driver, president and CEO, said in a release that there will "be no additional construction or any disruption necessary to bring this service to the area, and it is available immediately."

Eligible businesses will be able to choose from a number of symmetrical, asymmetrical and dedicated Internet access packages. NTS said that its Gigabit network will not rely on government or locally funded subsidies.

Besides the Gbps service, NTS offers a suite of traditional copper-based DSL, VPN and MPLS data services. It also offers traditional voice services such as DID and PRI and video programming for commercial businesses and restaurants and bars.

At a time when Google Fiber (NASDAQ: GOOG) and ILECs like CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) and AT&T (NYSE: T) have been gaining attention for their 1 Gbps services, NTS has been building out its own fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network throughout Texas. Since launching its PRIDE FTTP network in 2010, NTS has built out the network in more than 17 markets in Texas.
