NTT America gets serious about enterprise cloud computing

NTT America (NYSE: NTT) is throwing its hat into the cloud computing ring with the debut of its own enterprise-grade, multi-tenant public solution for its U.S. customers.

As an extension of its VMware virtualization platform, NTT America's cloud computing service combines OpSource's cloud architecture, its global IP network and data center infrastructure. NTT America Cloud extends the service provider's virtualization services to enterprise customers, who can then build, deploy and manage their own networks. The service also supports various operating systems, including Windows, Red Hat and CentOS.

What will likely resonate with enterprise customers considering a cloud computing platform is that the service puts control into their hands. Through a self service portal or automated through an API, an enterprise customer can provision dedicated VLANs, configure firewalls and deploy server environments regardless of geographic location. All of these services can be turned on and off by the enterprise customer as needed.
