NTT America: IPv6 adoption wave coming

IPv6 deployment so far has not met expectations, but many service providers see the next year or so as significant to growth in IPv6 adoption, particularly because IPv4 addresses are set to run out sometime between 2009 and 2011. Some carriers see the transition happening slowly and are looking to support dual IPv4/IPv6 stacks. Meanwhile, others like NTT America have been promoting for IPv6 for many years, and are now seeing greater opportunity to devise and enable IPv6 applications. NTT America CTO Kazuhiro Gomi tells Network World a huge wave of IPv6 adoption is coming.
