NTT buys Solutionary to strengthen managed security play

NTT is acquiring Omaha, Neb.-based Solutionary, a pure-play managed security services provider, to expand its cloud-based security service portfolio throughout its worldwide footprint. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

After meeting necessary regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, the deal will be completed in Q3 2013 and Solutionary will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT.

Both companies benefit from this acquisition. NTT can extend Solutionary's ActiveGuard managed security services to its own customers. Likewise, Solutionary will gain a larger global platform to deliver its service and an expanded set of  IT service capabilities via its Dimension Data, NTT Communications, and NTT DATA subsidiaries that it can extend to its 600 existing clients.

"This acquisition will further strengthen the NTT Group in becoming a trusted leader in the global ICT and security industry," said Hiroo Unoura, president and CEO of NTT in a release.

While Solutionary does not disclose its earnings, the service provider's reputation as a pure-play Managed Security Service Provider has earned it a leadership position on Gartner's Magic Quadrant for MSPPs in North America.

Purchasing Solutionary is part of NTT's ongoing global cloud and security service expansion effort.

In addition to expanding its own network build outs in Asia Pacific and Europe, NTT has been building up its cloud and managed security portfolio through a series of acquisitions of other IT, data center and cloud providers, including Dimension Data, Gyron, and Centerstance.
