NTT Communications (NYSE: NTT) on Thursday began offering its domestic and international network services in Vietnam through Global Data Services JSC (GDS), a cooperative effort between NTT Com and Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications (VNPT).

On Nov. 26, NTT became the first foreign service provider to get a telecom license from the Ministry of Information and Communication, Vietnam's telecom regulator.

In conjunction with its Vietnam subsidiary NTT Communications (Vietnam), NTT will offer a host of information and communication technology (ICT) services to multinational companies in Vietnam. These services will include multicarrier domestic data service; direct connection to Internet exchanges; Internet access; and videoconferencing and teleconferencing.

By offering a local multi-carrier selection, GDS said it can provide table stakes features that large multinational enterprises would want such as carrier-redundant access and SLA-backed services.

In Asia-Pacific, NTT purchased India-based data center provider Netmagic, while in Indonesia it built a fiber network targeting the country's business community.

It has been equally aggressive in Europe. Over the past year, NTT has expanded its presence in Amsterdam, the UK and Scandinavia, in addition to three Eastern European cities: Budapest, Bucharest and Sofia.

NTT's ongoing international drive is timed well with the growth in the data center and hosted managed services space.

According to a new Synergy Research Group study, service provider revenues from Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) "surpassed $2.75 billion in the first half of 2012, having grown by 65 percent from the same period last year."
