Oracle and Alcatel-Lucent settle patent feud

Oracle and Alcatel-Lucent have settled a patent fight over ways to manage voice messages, e-mails and instant messaging. Terms of the agreement were not announced, but were "satisfactory to both parties," said an Alcatel-Lucent spokesperson.

Oracle sued Alcatel-Lucent in May 2008, claiming the company's OmniTouch My Messaging system and other products infringed upon Oracle patents. As is typically the case, Alcatel-Lucent rejected the charges and then filed its own claims that some of Oracle's products infringed upon its own patents. When the smoke cleared, a total of 13 patents were at issue, five owned by Oracle, one owned by Siebel (bought by Oracle in 2005) and seven owned by Alcatel-Lucent.
