Oracle shows results of BEA combo

Oracle's acquisition of BEA Systems occurred after a bidding and negotiation process whose prolonged and controversial nature may not have been too surprising, given how intensely the two software companies competed in industries such as telecom. Now, however, the deal is closed and Oracle already is announcing new platforms and applications resulting from the combination of the two firms and their efforts to address where their previous offerings overlapped.

Oracle has announced a new version of the Oracle Communications Services Gatekeeper 4.0, which is actually a re-christened former BEA platform. The offering enables automated management of carrier network partners and access to third-party service development tools. Oracle and BEA worked together to enhance the product's network access policy enforcement and Web service enablers, and to reduce ownership cost by moving the platform to the latest release of J2EE in the WebLogic Server 10 platform. Oracle also announced other new elements of its Oracle Communications Service Delivery portfolio, which includes components of BEA WebLogic Communications middleware platform and Oracle Fusion Middleware.

The combined company looks well-armed for an operational support system and service delivery platform landscape that once was dominated by specialists, but is quickly becoming an arena of battle for big-name vendors.
