Orange Business steps up its Asia Pacific growth effort

Orange Business Services is looking to enhance its multinational corporation (MNC) customers' desire to reach into Asia Pacific by putting more energy into the region.

In 2011 alone, the service provider invested about €750 million ($1.01 billion) in the region with a focus on network enhancements, cloud computing, partnerships and network-related IT services. Over 800 enterprise customers in the region are now taking advantage of these initiatives.

These network upgrade and service enhancement efforts in Asia Pacific are part of its broader Conquests 2015 global strategy, an effort that it is set on generating €1 billion ($1.35 billion) in revenues in emerging markets in 2015. Orange has added 200 new sales and customer support staff in the last six months focused on opportunities mainly in China, India and Asean.

In addition to beefing up its customer staff, the service provider is opening a Solutions Center in Singapore that provides customers, including those in the banking and finance, oil and gas, logistics and transportation, pharmaceutical and technology verticals a way to see how they can address business challenges related to their respective industries. A Solution Center in Beijing will be launched early next year.

From a cloud services perspective, Orange Business Services, in partnership with airline IT provider SITA, is building a managed cloud computing infrastructure. This infrastructure will include new fully operational data centers located in Atlanta, Frankfurt and Singapore in Q1 2012 followed by Hong Kong, Sydney and Johannesburg in Q3 2012.

All of the cloud and network services delivered to Asia Pacific countries will be supported by a new 10G ring network between Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. When the 10G project is complete, Orange will have its Asia Pacific, Europe and U.S. dual 10G belts interconnected.

Similar to its recently announced initiative to expand its network capacity in Latin America, Orange's move in Asia Pacific provides it with another point of differentiation it can use to pitch new and existing clients that want to establish greater presence in the region.
