Ovum: Move over DSL, here comes Fiber-to-the-home

Given that Japan and Korea are traditionally early adopters of new technology, it's not surprising that Fiber-to-the-home/business broadband access is outpacing ADSL in these countries. But Fiber-to-the-Home is also gaining traction in other countries, including the U.S., Sweden, Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands. In the U.S., Verizon currently passes 13.2 million premises with Fiber-to-the-home via its FiOS initiative. At the same time, Verizon lost 46,000 DSL-based connections during the first quarter. FTTH/FTTB penetration won't just be relegated to developed countries alone. Ovum argues that Asia-Pacific-based countries such as China and Malaysia will ‘be even more pronounced, with Fiber-to-the-home/business connections overtaking DSL to be the leading technology in 2014.
