Positron acquires access vendor Aktino

Tools

Positron, a Sonet access vendor and equipment manufacturer whose history in telecom goes back nearly 40 years, has announced it is acquiring Aktino, an access vendor best known for its solutions in the competitive Ethernet over copper sector. Aktino has offered EoC systems based on multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) and discrete multi-tone (DMT) technologies, a different approach than other vendors have used in that market, according to a story at Telephony.

The Ethernet access market has experienced strong growth in recent years, and the EoC segment has been of great interest, though the biggest telcos with the most copper have not necessarily advertised their use of the technology loudly.
