Qwest, union agree on revamped contract

Tools

Qwest Communications and the Communications Workers of America have reached a tentative agreement for the second time on a new contract affecting about 20,000 employees. After union members voted to reject the earlier tentative offer, Qwest agreed to extend the contract for one more year, making it a four-year deal. The new arrangement offers union members an additional year of job security and an additional 3 percent pay increase (the original offer included annual 3 percent raises for three years).

However, the new offer doesn't further increase the raises, and it still calls for employees to contribute their own healthcare premiums, two areas thought to be impasses for some union members. The new contract will reportedly be up for vote on Oct. 31, otherwise known as Halloween. Will it turn out to be another fright night for Qwest?

I am so sick of these qwest employees taking advantage of QWEST through overtime abuse, time card abuse and overall lazyness in the job. Grow up you are not owed ANYTHING in this world. Another union destroying a great company.

The union is not destroying this company, the ridiculous management is! Not having a raise in 10 years and no cost of living raise for years and years...give me a break! I just love that when the CEO of Qwest makes over 17 million dollars per year and the employees continue to get nothing. YOU grow up!

Qwest, a great company? Bwetter than a sharp stick in the eye but "great" would be a tall stretch. Let's just see what kind of bonus Ed gets after the union signs off on a junk contract.

screw the CWA and especially Jonathan Geeboo out there in the GOP state of Colorado
