Qwest wins $100 million IP service contract with the DoD

On the eve of finishing its merger deal with CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL), Qwest (NYSE: Q) secured a $100 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for Internet Protocol Services (IPS).

Under the terms of the agreement, Qwest's Government Services unit will provide its iQ Internet Service to the DoD's Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA)/ Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization (DITCO) as they migrate to GSA's Networx contract.

Qwest said that when it completes the task order, it will be the sole provider of IPS for the Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy, in addition to other DoD-related agencies.

Diana Gowen, senior vice president and general manager of Qwest Government Services in Arlington, Va., said that "through this task order Qwest will continue its relationship with DoD to provide advanced data services, which are crucial components of our nation's defense systems."
