Rancor rises over diving DSL growth

AT&T and Verizon Communications, in their recent respective earnings reports, highlighted the expansion and customer growth on their new fiber-based broadband networks, but didn't say too much about the DSL-based broadband services. Analysts increasingly have been raising the notion the DSL growth across the board for telcos, and especially for the two largest telcos, came in well below expectations for the fourth quarter of 2007. Now begins a delicate dance as telcos may have to face declining DSL prospects while still look to establish solid footing as fiber-based operators of video-centric services.
