RCN Business extends data center reach into two new Greater Boston area locations

RCN Business is enhancing its data center reach in the Greater Boston area by opening new facilities in Bedford and Waltham, Mass., bringing its total number of area data centers to eight.

The service provider opened a new data center in 115 Second Avenue in Waltham and plans to open a second data center at 55 Middlesex Turnpike in Bedford later this month.

RCN Business has also installed data centers at six other locations: One Summer Street, Boston; 300 Bent Street, Cambridge and 70 Innerbelt, Somerville; 105 Cabot Street Suite and 105 First Avenue in Needham; 200 Quannapowitt Parkway, Wakefield, and One 1st Avenue in Waltham.

By expanding its data center reach, which connects to its own wholly-owned fiber network, RCN Business will be able to better respond to local area businesses' need for an alternative source for its suite of Internet, Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), Hosted Voice, PRI/SIP Trunks, Video (HDTV) and Ethernet E-Line and E-LAN services.

Bedford and Waltham are the home of a number of large office parks like Wyman Center, which include a mix of small and large businesses that could benefit from a data center provider, particularly if they want to start migrating to cloud services and backing up data at a center that's located close to their offices.

Another differentiator is the fiber network. Having these data centers connected to its own fiber network means that RCN Business can more effectively control the experience it can provide to new and existing customers that use their services to compete against cable operators and local telcos like Comcast Business (NASDAQ: CMCSA) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ).
