Recovery Friday and the VoIP Fierce 15
It's been a busy week for the Telecom and Digital Media (TDM - Ha!) Group.
We've moved FierceOnlineVideo from Fridays to Wednesdays. Sent out our preview edition for TelcoTV on Thursday - Dan O'Shea will be reporting from TelcoTV next week. To top it all off, we wrapped up the 2008 VoIP Fierce 15.
You can explore the 2008 VoIP Fierce 15 here. There are a couple of names that you might be surprised to see, but others - such as Pactolus for Global Crossing - provide huge services for carriers. And I'm willing to bet that nearly everyone has some GENBAND in their network.
Dan O'Shea and I have discussed putting together a Fierce 15 for the Telecom sector, but the problem we quickly run into is that there are few privately held companies that are truly "Fierce" and pure-play telecom. For example, development of optical and Metro Ethernet gear tends to be a very capital intensive field, so the few private companies within the space tend to get snapped up or try to go public really quickly.
Let us know what you think.

This would be great coverage. I was just talking to an associate. How unsexy photonics and manufacturing are. We have a great technology (Fiber Optic Modulators with no air-gap while changing light refraction to increase the power even across all lambda supporting bit rates to 170 Gb for 100 km).
Several of the larger companies have been adding this to there requirements and designs. Our one competitor can achieve 2/3rd the speed but only at half the distance and still only of for 90% of the frequency amplitude. Either or competitor or us is being added to virtually every public and large corporate network backbone.
