Reding touts Euro super-regulator

Lest the telecom industry--and European telcos in particular--forget, European Commissioner Vivane Reding again last week touted her proposal for a pan-European regulatory agency, this time in a speech to the European Regulators Group. More details of Reding's proposal are scheduled to be published on Nov. 13, but in her speech, Reding reiterated plans for what what was described as a "European FCC."

If she wants to win support for the idea, she should stay away from comparisons to the Federal Communications Commission, which can't seem to please anybody these days. Reding also said there are already some pan-European agencies that provide a model for her idea, though she still hasn't shaken critics who believe such an agency is unnecessary.
