Reliance Globalcom serves up 10G point-to-point Ethernet

Reliance Globalcom on Tuesday unveiled 10G LAN PHY, a new dedicated point-to-point Ethernet service, for its enterprise and wholesale carrier customers.

Set to be the standard service it will offer in all of the major cities where its worldwide network currently reaches, the 10G LAN PHY services will be available over 19 of the cities is serves via its FA-1, FNAL, Falcon, FEA and Hawk cable systems.

Interested customers can choose from a mix of unprotected Point-to-point, full or half channel circuit connectivity to landing stations and PoPs throughout Asia, India, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.

In addition to providing "improved manageability," Reliance said its wholesale customers, for example, can reduce costs because they can interconnect with their respective Internet routers with 10G Ethernet / LAN PHY interfaces instead of legacy SONET-based STM64/OC-192 interfaces.

Customers can upgrade from their existing Gigabit services to 10G without having to do a wholesale change out of their existing network gear and leverage Ethernet-based Tbps routers to build and grow out their IP backbones.

The new 10G service follows the upgrade of its FNAL submarine network, including two key routes that span approximately 5,000 kilometers to connect Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong. Initially, Reliance began offering the 10G LAN PHY services initially in 2009 on its FA-1 submarine cable system between New York, London and Paris.
