Report: Internet traffic flowing from Latin America to the U.S./Canada is highest in world

Latin America's growing demand for Internet bandwidth has made the Internet traffic route between Latin America and the U.S. and Canada the most highly trafficked route in the world. According to TeleGeography, which tracks inter-regional Internet routes, the amount of bandwidth used for Internet traffic between Latin America and the U.S./Canada increased 43 percent from 2013 to 2014 to reach 14.8 Tbps. This compares to 10.5 Tbps for the Europe to U.S./Canada route and 10.4 Tbps for the Asia to U.S./Canada route. TeleGeography says the reason for the increase is that nearly all of Latin America's Internet bandwidth is connected to the U.S. and Canada, while Asia and Europe have inter-regional capacity that is spread across different routes. Release
