Rumor mill: French regulator Arcep mulls France Telecom breakup

Tools

Arcep, France's main telecom regulator, doesn't want France Telecom (NYSE: FTE) getting all of the country's Fiber to the Home (FTTH) action, and is reportedly thinking about breaking up the former state run service provider.

According to an unconfirmed report in French newspaper Les Echos, the idea of splitting up the service provider came up during an Arcep meeting this week.

However, the report said that any decision has been "deferred" because there is "little to suggest it is needed at this time." France Telecom would not comment on the matter.
