Savvis launches big data services for enterprises, government agencies
Savvis has introduced its Big Data Solutions, a service suite that the subsidiary of CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) says will help enterprise and government agencies mine more value out of the data they collect.
The Big Data suite includes managed services for Cloudera and MapR platforms based on Apache Hadoop. It will offer customers software licensing and operations management for Hadoop, including configuration, monitoring, upgrades and security.
In addition to software and services, Savvis will provide planning and implementation services, including environment design, security planning and project management. Customers can also take advantage of consulting services to prove a business case for big data.
Big data is just one of four new elements of Savvis' expanded solutions portfolio that also includes business applications, content management, and e-commerce services.
The big data market may be relatively nascent, but it has a lot of growth potential.
According to a recent Mind Commerce study, the big data-driven telecom analytics market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of nearly 50 percent between 2014 and 2019. At the end of 2019, the market will eventually account for $5.4 billion in annual revenue.
Despite its potential, service providers are still in a learning phase with data analytics. The good news is they have a wide choice of databases, platforms, applications and services from a growing list of vendors.
