Service providers embrace P2P solutions

At this week's Streaming Media East conference in New York, major broadband service providers Verizon Communications and Comcast are saying they can figure out how to manage their networks without affecting peer-to-peer traffic and user experience. Verizon talked in more detail about the P2P tests it has run with Pando Networks, and Comcast said it will begin tests with Pando next month.

Perhaps the big broadband carriers can demonstrate their willingness to find creative ways to manage their networks around P2P traffic spikes, and cool the mounting criticism from studies and user communities that they are delaying or blocking access. With P2P traffic representing the majority of content traffic on their networks and still growing, they are rightly no longer ignoring or denying the problem. Still, the Net neutrality legislation train may have already left the station.
