Sidera appoints Ciena veteran Joe Cumello as marketing chief
Sidera Networks has named telecom veteran Joe Cumello as its new vice president of marketing, replacing Maura Mahoney. In his new position, Cumello will oversee the entire competitive provider's marketing functions.

Before coming to Sidera, Cumello recently served as the VP of marketing for SafeNet, an information security company. There he oversaw the launch of SafeNet's cloud security and new data encryption products, drove increased discipline and methodology behind SafeNet's sales enablement efforts, and increased the qualified lead flow into the sales funnel.
Cumello is probably best known in the telecom industry for his eight-year tenure at Ciena (Nasdaq: CIEN) where he served as the company's senior director of global marketing.
At Ciena, he drove the development of optical and Ethernet services and various marketing plans to support and grow Ciena's service provider customers. In addition, he oversaw Ciena's industry and regional marketing efforts targeting the telecom, wireless backhaul, financial services, healthcare, and government markets in not only North America, but also Latin America, Europe, and Asia.
Having this broad customer experience in hand will enable Cumello to drive new vertical segment initiatives in these diverse industry segments.
Cumello's appointment comes amidst some management changes at Sidera. In mid-December, Sidera named Clint Heiden as president. Heiden oversaw Paetec's Intellifiber division prior to being sold to Windstream. Heiden came to Paetec via the former CLEC's acquisition of Intellifiber's parent company Cavalier Telephone.
