Slim's Mexican telecom consolidation plan needs final regulatory approval

Mexican telecom magnate Carlos Slim's dream to create an integrated wireless/wireline company may have gotten some initial regulatory approvals, but one major obstacle still remains: approval from the Mexican and U.S. securities regulators.

According to a filing with the Mexican and U.S. securities, Slim planned to have his wireless company America Movil launch its share offers for his wireline holdings Telmex and Telmex Internacional today, but it looks like the plan might not happen until the end of this week.

"The paperwork is in process, it's still not complete," said Carlos Lopez-Moctezuma, Mexico's main market regulator National Bank and Securities Commission spokesman said in a Reuters article.
