Sonus Networks names former Flarion creator Rajiv Laroia as new CTO
Sonus Networks' (Nasdaq: SONS) ongoing management realignment continues this week as the IP voice vendor has appointed Dr. Rajiv Laroia as their new Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.
Like Sonus' recently appointed CEO Ray Dolan, Laroia is a former Flarion Technologies executive.
Laroia founded Flarion Technologies in 2000, an early provider of OFDM-based IP-based wireless data systems while working inside of the Bell Labs' Mathematical Sciences Research Center. Later in 2006, Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) acquired Flarion and Laroia stayed on with the company, having most recently served as Senior Vice President, focusing on advanced technology research.
In his new role as CTO at Sonus, Dr. Laroia will oversee the vendor's global technology development, including both organic development and partnership efforts for new and existing products. He will also serve as principal advisor to the CEO and the Board of Directors regarding new areas for development, whether organically or through acquisition.
Similar to the vision he crafted at Flarion Technologies, Laroia wants to build upon Sonus' role in helping wireline and wireless networks further their IP-based transition. "Sonus has successfully led the transformation of large carrier networks to IP, and has established visible traction in the Session Border Control space as part of that transformation," he said.
The appointment of Dolan and now Laroia have been part of a broader company management rebuilding effort that Sonus has been on ever since 2008 after Sonus' former founder CEO Hassan Ahmed and CTO Vikram Saksena both left the company amidst revenue slumps and battles with investor Legatum Capital.
