Spirent gear earns PBT testing certification

Tools

Test vendor Spirent Communications has earned Carrier Ethernet Ecosystem Compatible Product Certification in the field of provider backbone transport technology testing for its TestCenter platform. That is a long way of saying that Spirent is the first to have its gear endorsed for PBT testing by 20-member, pro-PBT, Nortel Networks-led Carrier Ethernet Ecosystem (not that there's a much shorter way of saying it). Basically, Spirent's platform has been approved to work with Nortel's pre-standard version of PBT.

Nortel has been the chief promoter of PBT, though certainly not the only one, just as its PBT customer BT is the chief carrier proponent thus far, but certainly not the only one that has interest. Meanwhile, Spirent is not necessarily alone in the PBT testing market. JDS Uniphase, Ixia and others are in tune with this still-developing market. A PBT standard is currently in the works at IEEE.
