SPOTLIGHT: Comcast outscores telcos in broadband subs

Tools

Comcast added 382,000 new Internet subscribers in the third quarter, more than AT&T, Verizon and Qwest combined, says Dow Jones News Service.

AT&T added 148,000 subs and Qwest added 61,000 subs.  Verizon added 129,000 FiOS subscribers, but its numbers are offset by a loss of 96,000 DSL customers.

Comcast's COO says that the company's management "obviously believe" that they're taking more phone and data customers from AT&T and Verizon than the two are grabbing video customers from Comcast.

Next week, Time Warner Cable and Cablevision are expected to report strong growth in their 3Q updates.
