Sprint's wireline revenues down once again in Q3

Tools

If you're looking for improved financial performance in Sprint's wireline network segment for the third quarter, you won't find it.

Once again, Sprint reported that wireline revenues of $1.4 billion were down 10 percent year-over-year with decreases in voice and data services offsetting growth in Internet revenue.

On the other hand, Sprint's third quarter Internet revenues were up 5 percent from the third quarter of 2008 and flat sequentially. Sprint attributes the year-over-year increase in Internet revenues to ongoing demand for its Global MPLS services and increased demand from cable operators for its wholesale VoIP service. As of the end of Q3 09, Sprint said it supported about 4.9 million users of cable partner VoIP services.

Not surprisingly, Sprint's wireline segment continued to see losses in voice and legacy data services. Voice revenues declined 14 percent year-over-year. Just the same, legacy data revenues declined 35 percent, a factor Sprint attributes to their customer's ongoing migration to IP services.
