Surewest increase revenue, barely profits

Independent telco SureWest Communications reported a 20 percent increase in revenue for the first quarter to about $51.6 million, but the company was barely in positive net income territory, with a profit of about $283,000. The telco said it sees Strong revenue coming from recently-acquired Everest Broadband.

SureWest has embarked on a M&A strategy and has added new services such a home security, VoIP and HD DVR in order to deliver the company further away from landline decline on its home court in the Roseville, Calif. area. Coming quarters will be closely watched for progress in those areas.
