Synchronoss acquires Wisor Telecom, faces legal heat

Mergers and acquisitions among operational support system vendors have been frequent in the last few years, and, for the most part, these deals have involved very large firms buying somewhat smaller ones. But this week, Synchronoss, a somewhat smaller electronic order management specialist that played a key role in activating iPhones for AT&T Wireless, said it is acquiring Wisor Telecom, a provider of automated OSS capabilities, for $18 million in cash.

The deal comes with strong carriers association both domestically and internationally, as Wisor's customer list includes Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Embarq, Time Warner Telecom, Global Crossing and British Telecom, among others.

The acquisition, which will close by early next week, comes two days after a New York law firm said it was looking into potential civil securities fraud claims against Synchronoss. The firm alleges that Synchronoss issued materially false and misleading statements about its contract to provide in-store activation of iPhones
