AT&T, CWA D6 come close to striking agreement

AT&T announced that it is close to finalizing a labor contract agreement with the Communications Workers of America. The new agreement, which covers employees that work in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, will affect 26,000 wireline workers or approximately 9 percent of its 290,000 wireline employee base.

If approved by union members, this will be the fifth union agreement to be ratified by the CWA and AT&T this year. To date, AT&T has reached either tentative or ratified union agreements with about 70 percent of its 120,000 member wireline workforce. However, the agreement still needs to be ratified.

In other regions, AT&T continues to make progress with its union workforce. Thus far, AT&T and the CWA ratified union agreements in the Midwest and West regions in addition to Legacy AT&T, which encompasses workers over the entire U.S. Last week, AT&T and the IBEW ratified a three-year agreement covering 8,000 wireline employees that work for AT&T in Illinois and northwestern Indiana.

However, AT&T and CWA continue to negotiate the terms of a new contract in CWA District 3, the telco's nine-state Southeast region where the contract ran out in August. In CWA District 1, which covers workers in Connecticut as part of AT&T's East Region, has not been able to ratify a contract yet.
