AT&T, CWA reach tentative contract agreement for legacy wireline employees

The CWA and AT&T have reached a tentative contract deal covering about 8,000 legacy wireline employees, according to the company and the union. This is the fourth major contract agreement between the CWA and AT&T, and now about 57,500 of the 120,000 CWA members whose contracts expired in previous months have ratified or tentatively accepted new contracts.

"We're pleased that we have another agreement, and now have a ratified or tentative agreement in place for roughly half the employees in these wireline contracts," AT&T spokesman Walt Sharp said in an interview.

Sharp said the employees covered under this latest contract are located all across the country, as their prior contract was negotiated nationally with the legacy AT&T Corporation.

This contract meets the goals of CWA members at AT&T to enhance employment security, to maintain quality of living, and to support their families," CWA spokeswoman Candice Johnson said in an interview.

Johnson said more details regarding the agreement would be made public later in the day Friday.
