AT&T, CWA Southeast hammer out a tentative contract agreement

The ongoing saga between AT&T Southeast's wireline workers and company management may finally be nearing an end as the ILEC has finally reached a tentative agreement with union workers in the region.

Covering about 30,000 CWA employees in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North and South Carolina and Tennessee, comes after AT&T and the Communications Workers of America (CWA) failed to ratify a new contract when it expired in August. Workers in those regions continued to work under the previous contract.

As the seventh and last of the CWA regions to ratify a new contract, the agreement has now been sent to union membership for a vote. What has been holding up negotiations was that CWA workers threatened to strike when AT&T asked the Southeast workers to foot a higher piece of medical expenses in the new contract.
