AT&T Mobility, CWA reach deal

Tools

AT&T has two union contracts up for renewal early this year, but the first deal finally appears to be done, at least tentatively. AT&T Mobility and the Communications Workers of America forged a tentative agreement on a four-year contract covering more than 20,000 employees. The bullet points include an 8.8 percent pay increase over the course of the contract, a $500 bonus, and a new commission plan for retail sales consultants.

Contract talks had been ongoing since the old contract expired early last month. Assuming CWA membership approves the new deal, AT&T still needs to work out a new contract for its wireline employees. Those talks could potentially be more contentious, as AT&T's wireline strength continues to be sapped by landline loss and competition.
