AT&T sells Dallas tower, will lease it

Tools

Just as AT&T prepares to move its corporate headquarters from San Antonio to Dallas, the telco giant has sold its 37-story One AT&T Plaza office tower in downtown Dallas. However, the company is having the space renovated and actually will lease it back from the buyer, a subsidiary of Icahn Enterprises (Yes, that Icahn). About 700 employees will be moving into the new Dallas HQ. AT&T did not state the financial details of the real estate sale. San Antonio became the new AT&T's base of operations a few years ago, after SBC acquired AT&T, took the latter's name and moved its corporate home south from St. Louis. The old AT&T had staked San Antonio as it command center back in the early 1990s.

A correction on you HQ history. SBC (not the old AT&T) had been headquartered in San Antonio since it moved from St. Louis in 1992. The old AT&T had been headquartered in NY/NJ before it was acquired by SBC.

Thanks, Dave, for pointing that out. You are absolutely correct.
