AT&T takes 40-Gig route with Cisco

Just days after Cisco Systems landed deployment deals with carriers Savvis Communications and XO Communications for deployment of its CRS-1 backbone router, AT&T today announced 40 Gbps transport on its nationwide IP MPLS network using the Cisco gear. AT&T formerly worked with Avici Systems for transport routers, but Avici exited this business earlier this year. The new capability keeps AT&T roughly at the same backbone capacity pace as other major carriers in the industry's migration toward the 100 Gbps backbone threshold.
