TDS adds New London, N.H., to its 1 Gig fiber-based broadband list

TDS Telecom has named New London, N.H., as the latest town where it will take its 1 Gbps fiber to the home (FTTH) service, the second of two towns in the state to get the new service. The earlier deployment was in Hollis in May.

The service in both cities is competitively priced at under $100 per month for those customers that choose to bundle their data service with video or voice service.

Similar to the Hollis rollout, TDS' 1 Gbps/400 Mbps service in New London includes a free subscription to Remote PC Support, which provides unlimited access to technical expertise. Remote PC Support technicians assist with device setup, Internet troubleshooting, computer optimization and safety.

Hollis and New London may be the initial targets of the 1 Gbps service, but they won't be the last.

Other potential markets where TDS Telecom could offer the 1 Gbps service could be Halls and La Vergne, Tenn., and Monticello, Minn., where it currently offers a 100 Mbps FTTH service for area customers. It could also extend the service to Concord and parts of Knoxville, Tenn., where it hatched plans to offer 100 Mbps fiber to the home and TDS TV services in July 2013 via its "Fiberville" program.

"As New London is the second TDS-served community with 1 Gig service, we plan to extend it to more communities in the coming weeks," said Matt Apps, manager of Internet Product Management and Development at TDS, in a release.
