TDS completes parts of broadband stimulus projects in Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee

TDS Telecom is going to deliver broadband service to more of its rural customer base through three ongoing projects in Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee. Set to be completed this spring, these buildouts will enable a combined 2,750 more households to gain access to high-speed Internet service.

In Kentucky, a project around Salem will deliver service to nearly 550 area households. TDS Telecom subsidiary Salem Telephone Company installed more than 30 miles of fiber optics and nine new remote terminal (RT) cabinets.

Serving the southeast corner of Yalobusha County, the Mississippi project will put broadband service into the hands of businesses and about 600 residents in parts of Yalobusha as well as Grenada, Calhoun and Webster counties. Over 50 miles of fiber optics cabling is being installed and 17 RT cabinets are being placed throughout TDS' Calhoun City Telephone Company to provide expanded broadband access.

Finally, TDS has completed part of a stimulus-funded project around Bruceton, Tennessee. When this network build is complete, area businesses and about 1,600 residents in parts of Bruceton, Cornersville, Decaturville, Darden and Waynesboro will gain access to a broadband connection. TDS' Tennessee Telephone Company installed more than 100 miles of fiber optics cabling and 22 cabinets are being installed to expand Internet access throughout this area.
