TDS extends broadband to rural customers in Idaho, Washington and Wisconsin

TDS Telecom (NYSE: TDS) has reached another milestone in its ongoing broadband stimulus program by completing portions of four new projects that will extend service to more than 2,600 hard-to-serve customers.

Set to be completed this spring, this new wave of builds targets residents and businesses in parts of Idaho, Washington and Wisconsin.

When the latest two projects are completed in Wisconsin, TDS will be able to provide broadband service to a total of 1,750 residents.

Serving Cranmoor and parts of Marathon, Portage, Clark, Jackson, Wood and Juneau counties, TDS' Central State Telephone Company project will provide about 1,400 customers with Internet access. The telco installed nearly 28 miles of fiber cabling and 26 Remote Terminal (RT) cabinets.

In the second project for Stockbridge, Wis., TDS' Stockbridge & Sherwood Telephone Company is installing about 12 miles of fiber cabling and 10 RT cabinets. Upon completion, the service provider will provide broadband to about 350 residents around Stockbridge as well as Tisch Mills and Zander.

Over in Idaho, nearly 300 residents around Kendrick, which is served by TDS' Potlatch Telephone Company, will get service. It is installing 20 miles of fiber cabling and 13 RT cabinets.

Finally, TDS' stimulus-funded project in Washington includes the installation of about 10 miles of fiber optics cabling and six cabinets. Once completed, about 600 residents around Onalaska and Salkum, Wash., as part of TDS' McDaniel Telephone Company, will gain access to broadband service.

TDS Telecom continues to make progress with its 44 broadband stimulus projects, reaching over 13,000 additional homes with broadband service earlier this month.

Wisconsin, in particular, has been a big focus for TDS, with projects in Neillsville, Reeseville, Iola and Scandinavia in various stages of completion. In addition, the telco has reached similar milestones in Alabama, New Hampshire and Virginia.
