TDS' OneNeck to double Eden Prairie, Minn., data center with $12M expansion

OneNeck IT Solutions, Telephone and Data Systems Inc.'s (NYSE: TDS) data center and cloud services subsidiary, is doubling its data center capacity in the Midwest with plans to add 6,000 feet of raised floor space in its Certified Tier III data center in Eden Prairie, Minn.

When the buildout is complete, the data center will have nearly 18,000 feet of raised floor capacity to serve its customers.

Phil LaForge, president and CEO of OneNeck, said in a release that the expansion is necessary to keep up with potential demand for data center and managed services.

"We are nearing capacity at the current facility and want to ensure our customers, and businesses throughout the region, have the space they need for future growth," he said.

Besides offering more space and power, the facility has been design-certified by the Uptime Institute as a Tier III data center. What this means for new and existing customers is that if any major component is moved for planned maintenance or failure, service will not be interrupted.

This is one of the first big moves that the unit has made since its parent rebranded what was known as TDS Hosted & Managed Services (HMS) to OneNeck IT Solutions LLC. Today, OneNeck operates a total of six data centers, including a location in Wisconsin and two each in Iowa and Arizona.

Data center and managed services continue to be a growing factor for TDS. During the third quarter, the telco added 9,000 new managedIP connections.
