TDS Telecom adds Monroe, Wis., to its growing 1-Gig broadband list

TDS Telecom is extending its 1 Gbps fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) Internet product to Monroe, Wis., the latest town in its home state to get the new service.

Similar to other towns and cities where it has launched the 1 Gbps service, TDS Telecom is offering it as part of a bundle with its TDS TV product.

Until now, the TDS TV service had been only available in part of Monroe. As it was building out the 1 Gbps network in Monroe, TDS said it was simultaneously building the IPTV network, meaning that both are now widely available throughout the town.

Customers will be able to get an IPTV-based service that includes a Connected-Home DVR (which links all TVs together), over 260 all-digital channels (including 100+ in HD), on-demand TV and movies, pay-per-view and on-the-go viewing options. TDS Telecom will also offer Wi-Fi-based set top boxes to distribute video throughout the home.

In addition to IPTV, the 1 Gbps bundles come with free Remote PC support, which includes unlimited technical support along with device setup assistance, computer cleanup, PC optimization and advanced Internet troubleshooting.

Monroe is the fifth town in Wisconsin where TDS Telecom is making its 1 Gbps service available. Other towns that now have the 1 Gbps service include Elkhorn, Johnson Creek, Waterford and Wind Lake.

Outside of Wisconsin, the service provider has been making an aggressive push to bring 1 Gbps FTTP service in its New Hampshire territory. Earlier this month, TDS Telecom announced that it would offer the service in seven New Hampshire towns--including Antrim, Bennington, Chichester, Deering, Henniker, Hillsborough and Hopkinton--between now and the first quarter of 2015.

TDS is just one of various independent wireline telcos that are now offering 1 Gbps service. Consolidated Communications responded to the Google Fiber threat by launching its own residential FTTP service in Kansas City, Mo., this week.
