Telcos take the upper hand in Q3 broadband subscriber race

Cable operators may be able to provide faster speeds over their existing HFC networks, but according to a recent MoffettNathanson report their flow share (share of net adds) declined year-over-year during Q3 2013. Senior analyst Craig Moffett, who wrote the report, said that Cablevision (NYSE: CVC) and Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) reported that broadband subscribers were down during the quarter. However, all of the major telcos except Windstream (Nasdaq: WIN), reported broadband subscriber gains. AT&T (NYSE: T) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ), two of the largest U.S.-based telcos, reported that they added 655,000 U-verse and 173,000 FiOS Internet subscribers. Read more
