TelcoTV: Alcatel-Lucent takes the guesswork out of IPTV deployments

Alcatel-Lucent is taking advantage of this week's TelcoTV show in Orlando, Fla.--one that's typically dominated by the presence of independent telcos--to launch its Triple Play Express (TPE) solution. Targeted at regional service providers (independent telcos, utilities and municipal service providers), the vendor says the latest offering is designed to create next-gen voice, data and IP video services to local and regional communities as well as building a foundation to deliver a new suite of IP-based interactive applications when ready.

TPE is a response to the fact that smaller service providers lack the personnel and technical resources to build out a video system. A typical complaint heard by independent telcos is a lack of interoperability between the various components needed to build a successful IPTV service roll out. Alcatel-Lucent believes it can take the guesswork out of building a video business with a pre-packaged IP video solution that service providers can use to accommodate telcos with as little as 5,000 subscribers and be scaled up to accommodate 40,000 subscribers.

This latest move complements Alcatel-Lucent's ongoing efforts to help smaller service providers wade through the complex Broadband Stimulus application process.
