Telecom New Zealand establishes wholesale agreement with Northpower Fibre
Telecom New Zealand (NYSE: NZT) will soon be able to deliver fiber-based broadband services to the Whangarei region Ultra Fast Broadband (UFB) initiative by signing a wholesale agreement with Northpower Fibre.
While Telecom's Chorus division won almost two-thirds of the 33 geographical UFB contracts, Northpower was part of a group of non-Telecom New Zealand service providers to which Crown Fibre Holdings awarded a contract last May.
Chris Quin, acting CEO of Telecom New Zealand, said that its relationship with Northpower is essential to expand into Whangarei.
"Whangarei is at the centre of economic activity in Northland," said. "Our partnership with Northpower Fibre will ensure that we continue to deliver on the objectives of the Government's UFB investment."
Northpower is just one of Telecom New Zealand's UFB partners. In March, the service provider signed a fiber services resale agreement with Enable Networks to provide services in Christschurch.
