Telecommuting in moderation increases

Even as telecommuting seemingly has become more popular, its effectiveness has been increasingly criticized. Now, perhaps some companies are starting to find the right balance to make it work. The human resources association WorldatWork said the number of U.S. workers who worked remotely at least one day per month was up 17 percent in the past two years to about 33.7 million in 2008. Yet, the increase comes at a time when the number of full-time telecommuters has been down. Companies probably are becoming better at managing how to enable telecommuting, while also making sure that the telecommuters don't become too distanced from the organization itself.
