Tellabs aligns with NEC Networks, SI to target Japanese packet optical opportunities

Tellabs (Nasdaq: TLAB) has established a resale agreement of its 7100 P-OTS (Packet Optical Transport System) with NEC and System Integration Corp. (SI) to capitalize on international growth targets in the Japanese market.

With this agreement in place, NEC Networks and SI become the channel partner for Tellabs' 7100 packet optical transport system, and will provide sales, systems integration, and maintenance support for the product throughout the country.

NEC Networks and SI engineers that have been trained on the 7100 will install the system in service providers that purchase it. It already looks like Tellabs' instincts on the Japan market are spot on as a major Japanese data center provider is currently trialing the system.

Gaining a larger foothold in Japan is a key effort by the company to help grow its Asia Pacific region sales, which have slowed in recent quarters, including Q4 2011. Tellabs will report its Q1 2012 earnings on April 26.

Having two well Japanese-based established partners such as NEC and SI will help Tellabs better target and possibly win new opportunities in the market.
