Telmex employs Cisco for its new telepresence offering

Telmex (NYSE: TMX) is enhancing its enterprise services by offering a new suite of collaboration and telepresence services with the help of Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO).

Beginning at the end of August, Telmex will offer a number of Cisco-based collaboration solutions, including Unified Communications, Cisco WebEx and Cisco TelePresence. Initially offered in Mexico, Telmex plans to expand the service to the rest of Latin America over time.

The Cisco solutions will be integrated into Telmex's two main collaboration solutions: Managed Unified Communications and Comunica Plus.

Targeted at medium to large businesses, Telmex's Managed Unified Communications service will be based on the Cisco Unified Communications Manager platform, allowing customers to deploy a collaboration integrated strategy that includes IP telephony, unified messaging, mobility, presence, collaboration via web and conference.

Designed for SMB customers with 8-100 users, Comunica Plus allows business users to have advanced collaboration solutions similar to the ones used by big companies, like presence, integration of voice mail with e-mail and smartphones, among others.

Telmex and Cisco aren't strangers. Telmex is already leveraging Cisco's gear to offer other telepresence services, including Managed telepresence, Intercompany telepresence and Public telepresence suites to its enterprise and SMB customer base.

Having these services on hand will help Telmex battle increased competition from foreign service providers like Telefonica (NYSE: TEF) that are increasingly upping their presence in Mexico and the rest of Latin America.
