Telstra improves VPN, cloud performance with Application Assured Networking service

Telstra (ASX: TLS.AX) believes that it can provide an even better experience for its enterprise cloud and VPN customers so it has introduced its Application Assured Networking (AAN) service.

Developed in conjunction with Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU), the Australian incumbent said that AAN can enable an enterprise customer to "identify applications running on their networks and analyze bandwidth usage and performance."

It plans to add a number of additional features, including real-time application control and network resource allocation with QoS.

According to The Register, Alcatel-Lucent beat out Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) to be the main vendor for the AAN service, although the Santa Clara, Calif.-based vendor will continue provide policy control solutions and Infovista will provide customer reporting.

There are two key benefits that Telstra's enterprises get with the AAN solution: reduced costs and visibility. By adopting the AAN solution, enterprise customers won't have to purchase new monitoring hardware and they will get a better look into all of the traffic types that exist on their respective networks.
