Telus reorganizes Optik TV lineup

Telus (NYSE: TU) is realigning its Optik TV channels, a move it says will make it easier for its customers to find their favorite shows.

Set to be introduced across British Columbia over the next few weeks, all of its channels including HD will be grouped together by categories such as major networks, news, sports and entertainment. The telco added that this change gives it room to add new channels.

Over the past year, the telco added added over 50 new HD channels over the past year and offer over 170 HD channels on Optik TV.

However, David Fuller, chief marketing officer, said in a release that Telus "received feedback that they want us to make their favorite channels and programming easier to find."

With the new Optik TV channel guide, the telco is grouping channels in various categories: major networks in channels 100 to 200, movies and series start at 400, and sports at 900.

IPTV and broadband have become major growth drivers in Telus' wireline portfolio. In Q2 2013, the telco added 31,000 TV subscribers, a 25 percent jump to total 743,000, and gained 13,000 high-speed Internet customers,
